Since July 2012, Swan Womens’ Foundation has been providing a safe accommodation for women in central Edmonton. Our mission is ensuring that women of all walks of life have a quiet, comfortable and friendly place to call home. Currently we house 28 women in our building, provide them with housekeeping services and a common washroom and kitchen, for interaction amongst each other’s, as friendship is the greatest support.
Throughout the years, we have had women younger and older, students, young adults in adverse situations, older woman with no place to go and refugees, co-occupy peacefully amongst each other; it’s a diverse and beautiful place. We truly do not discriminate and hold this value true amongst other tenants who are living in our housing. As long as we are able to help a woman or non-binary in need, we are happy to do so, and have been doing so since 2012.
We hope our legacy continues in the years to come to ensure that women are prioritized and have a safe place to call home amongst other supportive strong women. From the inception of Swan Womens’ Foundation, we wanted the buildings helping legacy to continue, prior it was a housing to aid the elderly by the Sister of Providence.
Our dream is to continue having this beautiful heritage building maintained and an integral part of Edmonton’s history. And, for generations to come, help those in need.
